Adult Day Health Program

Day Center

Levels

Insight's adult day health center is divided into three levels of care: Blue, Orange, and Coral. This ensures that participants feel challenged and engaged, while still setting them up for success.

Day Center Levels: Blue, Orange, and Coral

The Adult Day Center utilizes a person-centered care approach to provide an environment that focuses on people’s strengths rather than their memory limitations, addressing the needs of the total person: physical, mental, and emotional. To best meet these needs, our Day Center is divided into three levels of care: Blue, Orange, and Coral. This ensures that participants feel challenged and engaged, but still have a sense of accomplishment at the end of the day.

Our three levels are described below. We will help assess your loved one, both when they first begin the program and as they continue at Insight, to ensure that the program is best meeting all of their needs and set them up for success.

Our Groups

Blue Group

Late-Early to Moderate Stages

The Blue Group offers a variety of activities that encourage peer support, socialization, and brain exercise in a small group setting. Small group and individualized activities are offered to provide choices across the activity domains.

Overview
The blue group emphasizes educational programming and social activities. It is a great group to make friends, learn about a variety of topics, and have fun! Participants are welcoming, and love to learn from new members in the group. Programming is designed to increase social engagement and participation.

Activities
Typical activities might include trivia games, art projects, exercise and movement, science projects and demonstrations, and other group brain games.

Care Needs
Participants benefit from cueing, reminders, supervision, and medication management (if needed). Typically less physical support is needed in this group, but levels are determined on cognitive needs first, so any additional care can be provided as needed.

Typical Day
The blue group feels the most like a classroom with a predictable schedule and activities. The day begins with reading the newspaper, stretching and exercise, and a short brain game before morning snack and socializing. A presentation might wrap up the morning before lunch. The afternoon activities vary depending on the interests of the group, but include options like art, music, trivia games, or active games such as bowling, cornhole or ring toss to keep energy up!

Orange Group

Moderate Stages

The Orange Group offers activities that promote a sense of purpose and connectedness to other participants and offer ways to stay active and engaged. Favorite activities are modified and adapted as needed to provide enjoyment for each participant and the group to ensure success.

Overview
The orange group focuses on creative and tactile activities, staying active, and having fun! It is a casual and welcoming environment with plenty of time for socializing, playing games, and flexing creative muscles without fear of judgement. Self-efficacy is preserved as activities provide a sense of accomplishment and allow everyone to feel successful.

Activities
Typical activities might include exercise and active games, such as bowling, golf, or balloon volleyball, sing-a-longs, art projects, and informational presentations on travel or historical figures. Programs can be easily adapted to ensure everyone feels successful.

Care Needs
Participants benefit from regular cueing, some hand-over-hand support or help initiating activities, hands-on ADL care: eating and toileting (continence care), increased redirection, behavioral interventions, medication management (if needed), and may need a one person assist.

Typical Day
Knowing our participants thrive on routine and structure, the orange group follows a similar schedule each day with activities and topics switched out based on participant interests and current seasons and holidays. The day starts with a sing-a-long and music session, followed by group exercise and a brain game before morning snack. After a little socializing, there is typically another game or presentation before lunch. After lunch participants have their choice of active stations with different activities, such as coloring, painting, puzzles, or other sensory items. After afternoon snack, a few more group activities will finish up the day. These might include active games like board darts, a presentation on travel guides, or other brain games.

Coral Group

Moderate to Late Stages

The Coral Group provides individualized attention in a calm and relaxing environment.

Overview
The coral group is very calm, relaxed, and person-centered in approach. The focus is on providing meaningful sensory stimulation, engagement, and personal attention, helping participants relax or engage as needed. Programming is personalized to enable stimulation and engagement through sensory based activities.

Activities
Typical activities include music, art, aroma therapy, and sensory programming, which helps connect participants to things they have previously experienced, such as a beach environment or spa session.

Care Needs
Participants benefit from hand-over-hand assistance with activities, hands-on to total care with all ADLs including ambulation, motility, transfers, eating, toileting (continence care), medication management (if needed), and may need a one to two person assist. If appropriate, palliative care and hospice elements can be incorporated.

Typical Day
The coral group is a serene, comfortable environment, taking the time to enjoy each scheduled activity throughout the day. The morning begins with calming music, followed by a personalized exercise program. After morning snack, a sensory program will lead up until lunchtime, where participants are given ample time to enjoy their meals. After lunch, participants might listen to their personalized music or visit the Multi-Sensory Room, then come back for a group program using the Obie interactive projection technology. After a snack, the day might wrap up with a simple coloring or painting session.
